Are You Throwing Away Money on Heating and Cooling?

Throwing money away

The summer is fast approaching, which means there will be days when we cannot go without using our AC. Similar to those long winter days where the heat is set high, many homeowners don’t know the most effective way to use their system that still benefits them and saves them a lot more.

Half of the energy used in your home goes to heating and cooling. As a result, making smart decisions about your home’s HVAC system can make a big difference in not just your bills, but also to the comfort of your home. Follow along for tips on how to save money when using your heating and cooling system!

  • Set and forget your thermostat – This is a common mistake we all make, especially when dealing with hot summer days. To achieve maximum savings, adjust your thermostat whenever you leave your home for eight hours or more. For example, set it up eight degrees in the summer, and lower it eight degrees during the winter.
  • Check – It is also important to check periodically the right temperature for the time of day and if it is turning on and off at a specific time.
  • Maintenance – Many homeowners believe that by not regularly checking up on maintenance they are saving money, but this is false. Keeping up-to-date with the latest repairs is one of the top ways you can save money. It will not only lower your energy bill, but will also lower the frequency of costly repairs too. Maintenance should be performed regularly, at least once a year, to keep the system running smoothly, efficiently and safely.
  • Clean – Replacing the air filter regularly can help prevent dust and dirt from building up in the rest of the system. Cleaning the outdoor and indoor coils on your cooling system, can also help maintain its proper function–especially during the warm weather.

These are easy to remember tips to help you say a little money this summer. For more great tips, give the heating and air conditioning team at Morris Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning a call at (978) 961-0338
